Daniel Barenboim
is an Israeli pianist and conductor. Together with Edward Said, Barenboim founded the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, an ensemble of young musicians from throughout the Middle East. Barenboim is the former musical director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and was named Conductor for Life at the Berlin Staatsoper in 2000 and Maestro Scaligero at La Scala, Milan, in 2006. He is the author of three books: A Life In Music, Parallels and Paradoxes (with Edward W Said) and Everything Is Connected.
